2. How to Read the Information Labels

This article includes technical explanations from development engineer Max and an account of a month-long testing process involving professional riders. Four labels distinguish the types of information presented. They should not be treated as equivalent forms of evidence:

Information Labels Explained
Label Meaning
[Official Spec] Rated specifications published by INMOTION.
[Engineering Insight] Technical explanations from development engineer Max, not third-party verification.
[Testing Account] An account of rider participation in testing, without quantitative results.
[Opinion] The author’s assessment, rather than a statement of fact.

3. What “Your Line” Means: The Terrain the INMOTION X1 Is Built For

Almost every off-road rider knows the moment: you stop before a difficult section and decide whether to go around it or find your own line through.

[Opinion] The idea behind the INMOTION X1 is to give riders more confidence in their options at that moment. Specifically, it addresses three types of terrain:

  • Low-speed sections, steep climbs, and changing traction: where torque matters.
  • Repeated impacts, deep ruts, and jump landings: where suspension matters.
  • Faster sections where the terrain opens up: where peak power and control matter.

Below, we explore these three scenarios, along with maintenance, battery management, and everyday use.

4. Who the INMOTION X1 Is For, and Who It’s Not For

A Good Fit For

  • [Official Spec] Its intended audience: experienced riders tackling technical trails, open off-road terrain, and mixed conditions in between.
  • [Opinion] Riders who want more torque and suspension headroom for steep climbs, ruts, and repeated impacts.
  • [Opinion] Riders comfortable with basic hands-on maintenance who value ease of servicing.

Not the Right Fit, or Worth Careful Consideration

  • The INMOTION X1 is intended for experienced riders, not beginners.
  • [Opinion] Riders who mainly commute on smooth pavement are unlikely to need the X1’s long-travel suspension and high torque, while its 41 kg weight makes it harder to carry.
  • [Official Spec] Maximum load is 140 kg. Do not ride if you exceed this limit.

5. The INMOTION X1’s Core Capabilities

A high-voltage platform for demanding off-road power delivery.

5.1 Torque: Steep Climbs, Mid-Slope Restarts, and Riding Out of Ruts

[Official Spec] The INMOTION X1 uses a 235 V high-voltage platform and delivers a maximum torque of 340 N·m.

[Engineering Insight] Max explains that the X1 carries over the 235 V platform first introduced on the INMOTION P6, pairing it with the Raptor S high-performance silicon carbide (SiC) controller and a new high-output motor.

[Engineering Insight] According to Max, this powertrain’s value becomes clear at low speeds: sustaining output on long, steep climbs; restarting from a standstill after losing momentum partway up a slope, without a long run-up; and climbing out of deep ruts, provided there is a rideable slope to exit on.

[Opinion] That is what makes 340 N·m meaningful: what it can offer in these situations, not just the number on a spec sheet.

150 MM SUSPENSION TRAVEL — Standard setup, upper mounting position, standard body height.

5.2 Suspension: Up to 150 mm of Travel, Tuned to Your Ride

[Official Spec] The INMOTION X1 offers up to 150 mm of suspension travel.

[Engineering Insight] Max explains:

  • A progressive suspension curve provides sensitivity early in the travel, with increasing support as impacts get harder.
  • The shock supports ride-height adjustment, along with adjustable compression and rebound damping.
  • The goal is to suit both tight singletrack and faster, open terrain, while letting riders dial in their preferred feel.

Riding scenarios: successive roots and rocks, deep ruts, heavy compressions, and jump landings.

340N·M MAXIMUM TORQUE — Strong, immediate power at very low speed.

5.3 Speed and Power: Up to 120 km/h and 20 kW Peak Power

[Official Spec] The INMOTION X1 has a top speed of 120 km/h and peak power of up to 20 kW. That peak power comes into play on corner exits: braking, turning, and accelerating flow into one rhythm, helping the rider get back up to speed more quickly.

Safety Note
The 120 km/h footage shown at the launch was filmed with a professional rider on a closed course, wearing full protective gear. Follow local laws and speed limits. High-speed riding carries serious risks; this article does not encourage top-speed riding on public roads.

5.4 Control: Making Performance Usable

[Engineering Insight] The INMOTION X1 uses a new high-frequency field-oriented control (FOC) motor algorithm with a control cycle of less than 50 microseconds. A new balancing algorithm can respond to changes in the wheel’s tilt within 1 millisecond. Response is more immediate at low speeds, keeping pace with the wheel’s movement over uneven ground.

5.5 Modular Design: What Happens After a Fall?

[Engineering Insight] The INMOTION X1 features a modular design with replaceable components. Damaged parts can be inspected, removed, and replaced without taking apart much of the wheel.

[Official Spec] Under normal conditions, a tire change can take as little as 15 minutes. This is a best-case figure; actual time depends on the tools available, your experience, and the circumstances.

5.6 Battery Management and Fast Charging

[Engineering Insight] The INMOTION X1 uses a three-tier battery management architecture (BMU, BCU, and BDU) that continuously monitors cell voltage, temperature, current, and cell balancing. Its sensing and DC-DC components are automotive-grade and designed for a wide operating temperature range. This battery safety architecture is carried over from the INMOTION P6.

[Official Spec] Charging current is supported up to a maximum of 20 A with a compatible charger.

5.7 Personalization and Everyday Use

[Official Spec] The INMOTION App lets you adjust response and power delivery. Pedal height is also adjustable.

[Engineering Insight] Max explains that a lower pedal position feels more stable and suits faster riding, while a higher position provides more ground clearance for rougher terrain.

RideConnect offers vehicle location tracking, phone-based locking and unlocking, movement alerts, ride history, and diagnostic logs. According to Max, those logs help reconstruct the wheel’s operating state when a warning or fault occurred.

For everyday use, a headlight and supplementary side lights broaden visibility on night rides, a large front button can be operated with gloves on, and a USB-C output can power a phone or action camera.

Every off-road rider knows this moment. You look at the line ahead and make a choice. Go around… or find your line.
